Name: Oregano, Greek
Botanical Name: Origanum vulgare hirtum
Zone: 4-11
Soil: Average, well drained.
Exposure: Full Sun
Bloom Color: White flowers
Description: Hardy perennial. This aromatic, herbaceous perennial is compact and grows to about 20" tall. Its leaves are hairy, and its flowers small and white. Most herb lovers agree that Greek oregano is the most flavorful, but until recently, it was used mainly as a medicinal. Today it is maily used for cooking. It can be used in so many things-- egg dishes, breads, marinated veggies, beef, pork, poultry, and all kinds of vegetables.
Harvesting: Cut sprigs as soon as the plant is 6" tall. This also promotes bushiness.
