Name: Lavender, Munstead
Botanical Name: Lavandula angustifolia 'Munstead'
Zone: 5-9
Soil: Average, Well drained.
Exposure: Full Sun
Bloom Time and Color: Blue-Violet blooms in mid spring through summer.
Description: Flowers are bluer and earlier than most. Compact narrow green foliage. For centuries the fragrant flowers have been used in dried sachets, scented soaps, perfumes and potpourris. In the garden lavenders make sweet-smelling border plants along pathways. Munstead has a more compact habit and grow up to 12 inches tall.
Care: Mature plants thrive on a certain amount of neglect. Cut flowers when fully open. Trim back in spring to encourage bushier growth and deadhead after flowering.
