Creeping Jenny (Lysimachia nummularia) is a low-growing, fast-spreading perennial ground cover known for its bright, trailing foliage.
Description:
Growth habit: Mat-forming, creeping stems that root wherever they touch the soil, creating a dense carpet.
Leaves: Small, round to oval, coin-shaped leaves (the name nummularia means “like a coin”).
Flowers: Small, cup-shaped, bright yellow flowers with five petals, appearing in late spring to early summer.
Size: Usually 2–4 inches (5–10 cm) tall, but can spread several feet wide.
Light: Grows in full sun to partial shade (best leaf color in full sun).
Water: Prefers consistently moist soil; tolerates wet conditions and is often used near ponds or in rain gardens.
Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 3–9.
Uses: Ground cover, edging, hanging baskets, containers, and water-side plantings.
Maintenance: Very easy to grow but can be aggressive and invasive in some regions if not controlled.
